keeping it real about Sabbath

Okay, so I am going to be honest. I was kind of nervous to even start this blog. I never ever ever want to put myself above God or present myself as some sort of perfect authority on His Word. Because I’m not. I’m just a woman who loves the Lord so much and has some things to say. So I can be wrong, and I know I don’t have it all together, but what I do have is His Word. And so do you. So always go to His Word and test what I say against it. Use that God-given discernment. Don’t take what I say and just run with it. Seriously. That’s how deception creeps in.

Now with that disclaimer out of the way, here is something you should know about me: I am not in any denomination.

When looking at the Bible, specifically 1 Corinthians 1:10-13 and 1 Corinthians 3:1-4, it is a sin to be divided. Division is a work of the flesh. You may be wondering, “How can we be of the same mind and have no divisions?” That is done by truly following the Lord and not letting man-made tradition overrule that. Let the Spirit lead like He is supposed to. Let Jesus be your Teacher. Let the Father be your Father.

Easier said than done, I know, but it has to be done. God’s Word is plenty clear about a lot of things, and yet tradition overrules that plenty of times. One example that has been pressing upon me lately, because God opened my eyes to it recently, is keeping the Sabbath day. The Fourth Commandment. Friday sundown to Saturday sundown:

“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it” (Exodus 20:8-11 NKJV).

I know lots of people say that Christians no longer have to keep it, that it was made for the Jewish people, that Jesus is our Sabbath rest, and lots of other excuses, but God’s moral law has not gone away. And Sabbath is part of that moral law. It has been way before sin entered the picture (Genesis 2:2-3).

And even Jesus kept the Sabbath, as we see in Luke 4:16, as well as the apostles, as seen in Acts 13:42. Also, Jesus Himself said He is the Lord of the Sabbath (Mark 2:27-28).

So now I keep the Sabbath because, as Jesus says, “If you love Me, keep My commandments,” (John 14:15).

And let me tell you, I love Him a lot. That’s why I don’t commit murder, have other gods before Him, covet my neighbor's things… I’m sure you get the idea.

God wants us to remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy. For us to rest in Him and to let others rest as well. He has given us a day to not work at all, after diligently working for Him six days a week, which is pretty awesome. So I, for one, am making sure I take it because one day I’m going to have to give an account before Him, and I want to hear, “Well done, good and faithful servant,” not, “I never knew you; depart from Me…” (Matthew 7:23).

Like I said, you don’t have to take my word for it. Go to His. Ask Him questions. Ask Him for knowledge. Ask Him for wisdom. That is what I have been doing for months now, and He has been answering. And if you are sincerely reaching out to Him, He can answer you, too.
