to cover or not to cover?

So this particular topic is one that God had been trying to get me to do, but it took a good while for me to do it. That topic is covering my head when praying or prophesying (1 Corinthians 11:2-16). I know lots of Christian women don’t do it, and maybe it’s due to ignorance or the belief that we don’t have to anymore, but though the world may change, God doesn’t. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8). And when He tells us to do something, we are supposed to do it.

Even when it makes us seem different to the world. We are meant to be holy, set apart. The salt and the light. We are not meant to blend in with the world at all. We are meant to make an eternal impact.

So, back to the head covering thing, many try to object and say that a woman’s hair is her natural covering, but taking a closer look at the passage, we see that this is not the case:

“Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonors his head. But every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head, for that is one and the same as if her head were shaved” (1 Corinthians 11:4-5, NKJV).

We also see that the practice is rooted in creation itself, not culture:

“For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but woman is the glory of man. For man is not from woman, but woman from man. Nor was man created for the woman, but woman for the man. For this reason the woman ought to have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels” (1 Corinthians 11:7-10 NKJV).

So now I cover my head, because I care more about what God thinks than what the world thinks.

And I hope you do too.
