As I write this, I’m still waiting on the Lord. I’m waiting for this season of lack to be over. I’m waiting for a potential husband who can join my walk with God because I’m realizing how desperately I need a true man of God in my life. I’m waiting for so many things. And all of these things I’m waiting on, the world has ways to supposedly take care of it all.
Need money? Donate some blood, do DoorDash, apply to jobs non-stop. Want a baby? Try surrogacy, sperm donation, egg donation, IVF. Feeling low? Take a pill. Everything’s going to be fine. Want a husband? Go on dating apps and put yourself out there. A man isn’t just going to find you. Trust God alone? No, trust God to work through the worldly ways to get out of every problem. Almost every other Christian is doing it, so why don’t you?
Please, don’t do what the majority is doing. Please wait on the Lord, even when there is a solution the world loves dangling like a carrot on a stick. There are many ways to destruction, but only one way to life, and a few find it (Matthew 7:13–14). That way is not found in the world’s approved ways to get out of a problem. They are found in the uncomfortable waiting period where God does His perfect work (Lamentations 3:25).
If I had listened to the people who told me to basically take the easy way out with my anxiety and worry and go back to work, I wouldn’t have gained all the wisdom and knowledge that I have now. I would still be floundering in the world, numbed to the conviction the Holy Spirit was giving me.
Thank God I didn’t listen to the world. Thank God I chose and continue to choose to wait on Him, even when my outward circumstances make it seem like I was wrong to wait. Thank God I examined myself and my walk with God, leading Him to open my eyes to my sin. Thank God He held back my ability to pay rent and car insurance so I had no choice but to sit here and reflect on His work, which led me to write this letter (Psalm 119:71).
It is never wrong to wait on God. It is never wrong to trust His promises. I serve a God who says He will provide my every need if I diligently seek Him (Matthew 6:33). And I’m doing that. And if you aren’t, you need to do that now. You do not want to be one of the many people who will hear the words, “Depart from Me” (Matthew 7:23).
All of those people thought they were doing the right thing. They thought they were with God, but He never knew them. They knew tradition, not the Lord, and it destroyed them (Mark 7:6-7, Mark 7:13). Please don’t let this world destroy you too. The path may be one few find, but it’s not hidden. It’s in the very Bible you claim to follow. It’s in the Spirit you claim to believe in.
You have every opportunity to truly live as God has commanded. The question is, will you? Will you repent, follow the Lord, and wait? Or will you continue to be wise in your own eyes and do what you want when you want (Proverbs 3:7)? I pray for your sake that you finally listen to what the Lord is telling you before it’s too late, because God’s timing is perfect, not yours.
